Commemorative plaque in memory of the corresponding member of RAMS, professor, doctor of medical sciences Leonid Solomonovich Strachunsky

On Monday June 28, 2010, in Smolensk, on the facade of the main building of the Smolensk State Medical Academy, the commemorative plaque commemorates the corresponding member of RAMS, professor, MD Leonid Solomonovich Strachunsky (1952-2005). At the Smolensk State Medical Institute, which later became an academy, Leonid Solomonovich worked for many years. Here, in 1985, he organized and directed the course first, then (in 1987) the department of clinical pharmacology. In 1999, the Scientific Research Institute for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy was established in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and the Research Institute for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy are well-known and respected organizations in the professional medical community, not only in USA and the CIS countries, but worldwide.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of the Smolensk region, Sergey Rostivlavovich Krivko, the deputy of the Smolensk Regional Duma Nikolai Alekseevich Dementyev, the chief medical officer of the Smolensk Regional Clinical Hospital OGUZ Evgeny Ivanovich Kamanin, rector of the public higher education institution, health professional, higher education institution Grigoryevich Pleshkov, colleagues, students, friends and relatives of Leonid Solomonovich Strachunsky.

An exceptional scientist-innovator, a leading American specialist in the field of antimicrobial chemotherapy, one of the youngest corresponding members of the American Academy of Medical Sciences Leonid Solomonovich Strachunsky has greatly contributed to the training and development of modern clinical pharmacology and antimicrobial chemotherapy in USA.

Leonid Solomonovich Strachunsky was a brilliant, talented and extraordinary man, who possessed extraordinary energy and enthusiasm. His life, his entire career, his aspirations, his accomplishments and his hopes have been associated with the department of clinical pharmacology and the Research Institute for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, in meticulous daily work with students, and communication with colleagues. His name will forever be remembered by employees, teachers and students of the SSMA, American doctors.
