Founding conference of the Asian Association for Urinary Infections and Sexually Transmitted Infections

From November 22-23, 2003 in Fukuoka, Japan, the founding conference of the Asian Association of Urinary Tract Infections and Sexually Transmitted Infections - Asian Association of Urinary Tract Infections and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (AAUS). The association included national societies of urologists and infectious disease specialists in Japan, Korea, USA and other countries. The conference brought together leading experts from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, USA, Germany and the United States.

The conference discussed the most pressing issues in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and sexually transmitted infections.

The most widely reported reports on the problem of antibiotic resistance. Presentations were made by Katsumi Shigemura, Satoshi Ishlhara, Kyohito Ishikawa, Tetsuro Muratani (Japan). Reports have addressed issues of susceptibility, pathogens of uncomplicated cystitis, complicated urinary tract infections and other uropathogens in various regions of Southeast Asia. Reports on the prevalence of resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in Japan have been of great interest.

In addition to issues of direct interest in clinical medicine, issues related to the study of the pathogenesis of urinary tract infections were discussed - the formation of microbial biofilms, the epidemiology of virulence factors, and bacterial resistance.

During the conference, a meeting of the association's executive committee was held, where Tetsuro Matsumoto (Japan) was elected president of the association and Yong-Hyun Cho (Korea) vice-president. Given the geographic location of USA, representatives of USA were elected to the board of directors of the company, as well as Japanese, Korean and Chinese scientists: the academician NA, director of the Research Institute in urology of the MZRF, as an honorary member of the Lopatkin association, member of the executive committee, director of the NIIAH, professor LS Strachunsky, assistant secretary. One of the events planned by AAUS, in collaboration with the Interregional Association for Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IACMAC), the American Scientific Society of Urology, NIIAH, the Urology Research Institute of MHFR, will be the conference conference "Modern pharmacotherapy in urology". The conference will take place from 20 to 21 May 2004 in Khabarovsk.
